The episode opens with a classic Lorelai and Rory getting ready, pop tarts and all (how someone can eat so many pop tarts I do not understand
Lane asks Rory if her and Dean could set her up with Dean’s friend Todd. More importantly, she wants to go on a double date. and apparently he is her soul mate. Oh, and Lorelai is having lots trouble studying for her business classes and Rory has to tell her to study. It’s funny how the mother/daughter roles get flipped sometimes.
Sookie is making some sort of variation on Baked Alaska… and her and Jackson have an awkward moment in the kitchen. We can all tell that Sookie is dying to be with him. So Lorelai convinces her to ask him out. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful future!!! Though Lorelai gets stuck into going on a double date with Sookie, Jackson, and Jackson’s cousin Rune. I mean already that name!!
Of course when the older boys show up to the house, Jackson is dumbfounded by Sookie’s beauty… and Rune ends up being an absolute jerk! He even compares her to a bearded lady with big ears. The group goes to a nice restaurant and the train wreck continues. Rune cutting off the head of the shaped butter kind of wraps the evening up.
The other double date doesn’t seem to be going much better either. All of this reminds me just how much I hate double dates! Todd doesn’t seem to like anything. Oh, and he wants to major in gym??? Apparently Dean is just using him for his tools.
Lorelai and Sookie take the group to Luke’s where they can all relax a little bit. Lorelai and Luke have a lovely moment at the counter, while Rune loses it and leaves. Sookie and Jackson can finally have their perfect first date.
Just as Luke is about to ask Lorelai out, Ms. Kim interrupts the moment freaking out about where the girls are. The two find the girls, and Lane is ground forever. Oh, and Lorelai is scared of Ms. Kim. But really aren’t we all?
Lorelai does go and talk to Ms. Kim and explains to her that locking up your kid forever isn’t always the answer to teaching them a lesson. Amazingly, it seems t
Lorelai: “So who walked in on who naked?”
Lorelai: “Luke, That is an expectationally good batch of coffee.”
Luke: “Good, I added in a little nutmeg.”
Lorelai: “Really, that’s very….Richard Simmons of you.”
Luke: “Well what can I say, chicks dig a man with a feminine side.”
Todd: “Is that Rory’s mom. She’s a babe man!”
The episode opens with XTC’s “Earn Enough for Us”
