Episode 111: “Paris is Burning”

Summary:

Who else wants to play alphabetical disease naming to decide who gets to do household chores??????? Though puppy’s definitely aren’t diseases!! Seems that the Gilmore’s have quite the black cloud when it comes to animals though.

Screen Shot 2014-11-29 at 10.27.56 PM

Max makes Lorelai a delicious meal of Osso Buco (one of my favorites) that an old girlfriend taught him how to make. Its a little awkward how Lorelai mentions talking about Max grading Rory’s paper though. It’s even weirder when Madeline and Louise start talking about who Mr. Madina is dating.

Other than Mr. Madina, the whole school is apparently in talks about Paris’s parents divorce. And next week is parent’s week, which Lorelai is super excited to attend (though not as excited as she is about the mother/daughter talent show!).

As Lorelai gets ready to go out with Max, he shows up early before Rory has to leave. Luckily, he can hear their whole conversation from outside the door. In order to put the awkwardness on the DL, they decided to come up with names other than their school names. Why Rory wishes to call him Norman.. or Alfred, who knows??? This episode just doesn’t end with its awkwardness.

Sookie is mad that she can’t get her squash blossoms, as Jackson wants to give her his new hybrid a zucchini tush.

Lorelai wants to go skating with Rory and Rory suggests that they invite Max. It’s quite clear that Lorelai becomes uncomfortable with the fact that Rory likes the idea of her and Max being together. Max seems to be feeling this drift as well as he asks what her mother has been up to.

While at Chilton, Max corners Lorelai. While Lorelai tries hard to resist, she can’t help it and gets caught by Paris. Paris quickly spreads the world to take focus off of her and Lorelai and Max are the talk of the town.

Screen Shot 2014-11-30 at 1.06.22 AM

Rory and Lorelai fight over this, but its even worse when Emily catches wind of the news.

Though Paris and Rory don’t get along, we do get a glimpse into what their possibly friendship may be.

Sookie finally asks jackson out on a date!!!!!! At least the show can have one consistently adorable couple!

The episode ends with Lorelai getting her heart broken though when Max says they should spend some time apart to get their thoughts straight. Luckily, Rory is always there to support her mother though. Screen Shot 2014-11-30 at 1.17.02 AM

Rory: “You know what it means when a man loans you a book?”

Lorelai: “Than he is done reading it?”

Rory: “Yep”

Lorelai: “Wow, Zero to jackass in 3.2 seconds….. Do you want to sing more Ricky Martin to me?”

Emily: “Mistake! Is that what you call it?!?”

Lorelai: “Well I tried to call it Al, but it would only respond to mistake.”

Time Warp:

Lorelai talks about how if she kept watching “This Old House” she would be 1000 lbs. (I have to say that I didn’t even realize this show was still on until I looked up the link for it).

Max loans Lorelai a Marcel Proust book

Louise claims that Max probably has a Arthur Miller/Marilyn Monroe thing going on

And Lorelai says that her and Rory going skating will be just like Nancy Kerrigan/Tanya Harding.

THE REFERENCES IN THIS EPISODE NEVER END!

My favorite though is Sookie singing Ricky Martin in the kitchen

Episode 110: “Forgiveness and Stuff”

Summary:

This again isn’t one of my favorite episodes. Any episode that Lorelai and Rory are in turmoil usually is one I don’t care for. Guess I like things to be going well for my girls!

Christmas time is upon Stars Hallow and the town is preparing for the Christmas pageant.

Lorelai is uninvited to the usual Gilmore Christmas dinner and Lorelai sends Rory off on her own to the event. The biggest thing she is depressed about is missing out the song worthy apple tarts. Apparently, Lorelai has a reputation at the party as well for liking the apple tarts.

Dean comes to see Rory at her window, but Lorelai intercepts. The two work out their issues though.

Though it has nothing to do with the episode, I love how Stars Hollow has church bells playing in the gazebo. I could live in that idyllic winter wonderland all year long.

Screen Shot 2014-11-29 at 10.07.06 PM

Lorelai flocks to the diner in hopes of a festive christmas meal. Sweet Luke makes her a disgusting yet charming Santa burger. However, things are cut short when Lorelai gets a tragic voicemail from Rory that her father has been taken to the hospital. Luke steps in to support a flustered Lorelai and the two head off to the hospital.

Screen Shot 2014-11-29 at 10.13.54 PM

Emily is frantic at the hospital with Richard having a heart attack. If Emily treated her maids poorly, she really treats her nurses poorly. Never fails that Lorelai knows how to work the system.

Richard thankfully makes it out successfully. Though I wonder what it would take to get a screwdriver jammed into the side of your head. It is hilarious how Luke cannot handle illness and injury though.

It seems that it takes one tragedy to repair the small issues, as the relationships between mother and daughter and mother and daughter are repaired.

Take home message from this episode: HOW ARE LUKE AND LORELAI NOT A COUPLE??? HOW LONG MUST IT TAKE?

Favorite Quote:

Lorelai: “Dean, you know we have a really nice front door. You, should use it some time.”

Lorelai: “Don’t you have anything festive” (looking at diner menu)

Luke: “I just got some Grey Poupon in, that’s French.”

Rory: “If I hug you is it going to hurt?”

Richard: “Pain is part of life.”

Time Warp:

Lorelai calls for a pizza, but its going to be an hour because they are delivering via Razor Scooter!

Episode 109: “Rory’s Dance”

Summary:

It’s Rory’s first school dance! At first she doesn’t want to go, but when her mother convinces her what a good time it will be!

Rory first has to convince Dean to go, though why anyone would say no to an event that has chicken I don’t know why, haha. But actually, how could anyone say no to Rory! So of course Dean agrees and the dance preparation begins.

Lorelai makes Rory a gorgeous dress, while Rory has to fight off Tristan’s invitation to the prom.

Screen Shot 2014-11-29 at 9.37.08 PM

and while there were no pictures taken with Rory and her leg up in the air with a razor, there is a picture with her and a taco!

The dance is glorious and everything like Rory didn’t expect it to be. She even gets the pleasure of knowing that Paris had to bring her cousin. The night ends quickly though when Tristan tries to fight Dean. While I don’t like fighting, I do love how Dean fights for Rory’s honor.

OH, AND RORY CALLS DEAN HER BOYFRIEND!!!!!! GAH!!!!

Emily stays to take care of Lorelai while she has her back spasm. She even makes her one of her favorite childhood snacks, bananas on toast, which who would of guessed, is absolutely disgusting. Guess Lorelai needs to stick with Sookie’s cuisine.

Dean and Rory leave and head to a dark and lonely Miss. Patty’s where they spend time drinking coffee and reading a book (The Portable Dorothy Parker). I love how Rory brings a book everywhere, it is so innocent in nature, just like her.

Screen Shot 2014-11-29 at 9.46.10 PM

Well the two fall asleep and Rory does not come home in the morning. Rory freaks out and Emily freaks out even more yelling that Lorelai losing her. Just as the Lorelai and Emily seem to be getting along better , their relationship is troubled again.

Rory and Lorelai’s relationship seems to be a bit troubled too. Will the Gilmore Girls be able to reconcile?

Favorite Quote:

Rory: “I’m primping”

Lorelai: “You are 16, you have skin like a baby’s ass, there is nothing to primp.”

Dean: “Are all these women really Miss. Patty?”

Rory: ” She says she has done everything there is to do in show business except set fire to the hoop the dog jumps through.”

Time Warp:

to which Lorelai mentions the movie Midnight Express

Lorelai also mentions Lorelai joining a biker gang in Sausalito, though its quite the pretty place

Lorelai talks about heckling Regis (gosh I miss him on that show!)

Rory reads about Dorothy Parker, who is also the inspiration for the production companion behind Gilmore Girls.

Episode 108: “Love & War & Snow”

Summary:

The episode opens with a town meeting discussing the classic town re-enactment of Stars Hollow’s involvement in the Revolutionary War. Luke gets all fired up in how ridiculous the topic is and the Gilmore girls rejoice in the entertainment. The town meetings start to become a standard in the episodes, a component that shows the town in all its glory.

This is the first episode that we learn of Lorelai’s love of the snow. Everything good happens to Lorelai when it snows; her best birthday, her first kiss, Rory was born, Rory’s first steps… the list goes on. In fact, she claims that she can smell the snow. The Gilmore girls share the tradition of drinking coffee at midnight on the night of the first snow (one that I have taken up myself and have to say is quite fun.”

Lorelai is still stuck on Max… playing his message over and over. Rory and Dean are going hot and heavier (she even brings him some of Sookie’s Rocky Road Cookies). Oh, and Lane’s soul mate is now Rich Bloomenfield with his glorious hair

Well apparently the snow turns into a snow storm, forcing Rory to stay at her grandparents and leaving Lorelai stuck in Stars Hallow. And that’s when everything gets a little crazy.

Rory stuck at her grandparents, but gets to teach the joys of frozen pizza and gives her the chance to learn more about her mom as a teenager and to delve into her parents previous relationship.

Screen Shot 2014-11-29 at 8.38.47 PM

Lane has a moment of insanity and runs her hands through Rich Bloomenfield’s hair. She runs off to the Gilmore’s to find the house empty and is depressed over how Rory is no longer as present of a factor in her life.

Screen Shot 2014-11-29 at 8.34.32 PM

And best of all, Max Madina gets stuck in Stars Hallow with car issues. Giving Lorelai her snow present and a reason for Max to spend the night…

Screen Shot 2014-11-29 at 8.35.45 PM

Luke gives in and gives the reenactors some hot drinks to get through the night. Lorelai and Max romantic evening turns into Max sleeping on the couch when the run into Lane. And everything goes to shambles in the morning when Rory find that her teacher has spent the night at her house.

The episode closes with Rory looking at picture of her parents as teenagers. We almost get a feeling that she wishes they were together (could we possibly be meeting Christopher in the near future?)

Favorite Quote:

Lorelai: “Here Dean, these cookies are for you cause you’re keen!”

Lorelai:”Love, love, love, Dean, Dean, Dean.”

Sookie: (begins to chant) “With the love and the Dean and the cookies with the love and the Dean….”

(Rory leaves)

Lorelai: “Alright she’s gone”

Sookie: “But it’s fun… With the Rory and the Dean and the cookies and the love…”

Emily: “Rory, that’s food you eat at a carnival, or a Turkish prison.”

From “The Gilmore Girl’s Companion”:

Making a winter wonderland in LA is not easy apparently. Scott Cohen stated, “It was a big mess because the snow machine made so much noise, we had to rerecord dialogue for all out sciences.

Apparently it is really hard to get actors to agree to wear hats and scarves when its 90˚ outside too!

Episode 107: “Kiss and Tell”

Summary:

Our episode opens with the girls arguing over laundry… and Lorelai mentioning that she hasn’t worn underwear in three days. At least the breeze is nice?

Luke refuses to decorate for Thanksgiving, but what is new about that. This is the first time we truly see Taylor in all of his Stars Hallow glory. And we learn how much Luke hates town traditions (something we will commonly see).

Rory runs into the market to “pick up some corn starch”, but we all know she is just there to see Dean. Oh why could I not have had a Dean as a sixteen year old girl, humf….. Anyways Dean offers Rory a pop and she makes fun of him saying its soda. Being from Pittsburgh, pop all the way!!!

AND THEN ONE OF MY FAVORITE GILMORE MOMENTS EVER! Rory gets her first kiss, she said thank you, runs away, and shop lifts! Rory’s conversation with Lane afterwords is the perfect example of teenage girls being teenage girls. Though Rory realizes she has to tell her mom about Dean (duh, duh, duh….)

Lorelai is having difficulty with her fridge and has to make ridiculous noises on the phone. It does remind me how annoying it can be to talk to service people on the phone. However, when she makes a quick trip to Mrs. Kim’s antique shop, the beans are spilled… and Lorelai is left crushed that Rory hasn’t told her about this boy.

Lorelai and Rory meet up at the diner and Lorelai is determined to get Rory to talk about the situation. Lorelai eventual breaks down to Luke about how the situation makes her nervous. It’s one of the first times we see Lorelai acting as a somewhat traditional mom.

Lorelai eventually breaks down and tells Rory she knows and the mother-daughter relationship returns… somewhat. The girls run to the market so they can prepare for their Willy Wonka movie night. Of course, they run into Dean and Lorelai has to sufficiently snoopy. But snooping slowly turns into Lorelai inviting Dean to there movie night.

Rory freaks out about her first date ever being with her mother present. Then Rory freaks out about how she doesn’t allure boys like her mother. Then Rory just plane freaks out.

The date goes fabulously and Dean fits in perfectly to the pizza eating, candying guzzling, Oompa Lumpa obsessed lifestyle of the Gilmore’s.

After Lorelai and Dean get a chat in, Rory and Dean get a good goodnight’s kiss (in which Dean says “Thank You”), and Lorelai and Rory get their gab on, a successful evening is deemed!

Favorite Quote:

Lorelai: “Yeah, can you hear that? No, No, it’s like a high pitched sort of ‘Eeeee!’ sound.”

Lorelai: “Are the lids tight on the paint remover, cause you are sounding a little loopy to me.”

Cashier: “$41.83”

Lorelai: “Jeez, it’s expensive to rott your insides.”

Lorelai: “I’m afraid when your heart is involved it all comes out moron.”

Episode 106: “Rory’s Birthday Parties”

Summary:

Like last week episode, this week’s episode opens with the Gilmore’s at Friday night dinner. Lorelai breaks out in crazy antics about her crazy friend Sissy and how she talked to her stuffed animals. This is by far not the most absurd thing that happens at dinner. Emily then tells the girls to go the house and put post-it notes on what they want to be willed around the house. Still not the most crazy thing. The most crazy thing to happen is that Emily serves pudding at dinner!!!! Pudding seems to become a figure of speech throughout the episode.

As the girls mark their items with post-its, Emily brings up the fact that it is Rory’s birthday and she wished to throw a party for her. Lorelai then goes on a banter of how the government will close and Barbara Streisand will give her last concert and Elvis will be bringing chips!

In other news, Jackson invent the rasquat! Today, he is a GOD… and Michael must bow down to him! Maybe there isn’t actually a rasquat, but there is raspberry kumquat sugar cookie cake!

When Rory arrives at school she comes to find that her Grandmother’s small gathering is actual a massive party for everyone at Chilton and all of her Grandfather’s high class friends. When Rory goes to tell Lorelai though, Lorelai is “refreshed” by her day of shopping with her mother and Rory does not want to ruin her good mood.

Speaking of Rory’s past parties, apparently her 8th birthday party was shut down by the cops? And the clown got arrested???

Screen Shot 2014-10-31 at 9.28.24 PM

This episode contains one of my favorite Gilmore moments ever and a moment that really defines the relationship between Lorelai and Rory. Lorelai makes a tradition of climbing into Rory’s bed to retell the story of Rory’s birthday when she was swearing like a sailor on leave and felt like she was doing splits on a crate of dynamite. Keep in mind Lorelai says this all in the softest most enduring tone of voice. Rory says that she wonders if the Walton’s every did this (which is very ironic considering the Gilmore Girl house is the same as the Walton house!). This is a moment that truly makes me jealous of the mother/daughter relationship that they have!

Emily throws quite the affair for Rory with caterers and candlestick six inches apart. Lorelai gets stuck in an obnoxious conversation with an old high school friend, Rory finds Paris at her party, and Richard “approves” Rory’s friendship with Tristan. The whole party ends in Rory’s complete melt down. Richard does give Rory a generous gift to fund her trips to Fez. …and Lorelai and Emily get into a huge fight!

Rory attends a college fair and found out Paris wants to go to Harvard as well. The war to get in is ON! But we do get to see the slight beginnings of their beautiful friendship to come.

The Gilmore Girl house is a hopp’in place with a Rory face cake and all!! Emily and Richard show up to the party and are welcomed in in the best possible way… with Lorelai screaming to get their asses in there. Emily walks in on Lorelai giving Luke a hug. She later questions their relationship or the fact that Lorelai looks like she wants to give him a lap dance…

In other news, Richard is an autumn (haha, oh teen magazines!)

To finish off our episode, we see a little tete-a-tete between Rory and Dean. He gives her a bracelet for her birthday… under Lorelai’s panicked eye!!

Favorite Quote:

Lorelai: “Oh, don’t sit there. We got a post-it on it and want to keep it nice.”

Luke: “She’s not here yet.”

Lorelai: “Alright well you’ll have to entertain me until she does. Okay, burger boy DANCE!”

Luke: “Will you marry me?”

Lorelai: “What?”

Luke: “Just looking for something to shut you up” (if only this could be true!)
